Leveraging Natural Intelligence
ArchiBasics Press publishes books that explore the design process, offering multiple techniques and approaches to analyzing context, synthesizing appropriate responses, and presenting findings and recommendations in compelling ways. Conceiving and developing good solutions to complex challenges depends on design.
If you teach and would like to require or recommend any of our books as course readings, your options are somewhat limited by the fact that the format of several of Edward T. White’s books does not allow for retailing by Amazon or other major booksellers and by the fact that ArchiBasics Press is a small-scale publisher without the resources (such as a warehouse) of a major publisher, so we cannot sell books on speculation or take back unsold copies.
Please click on the “Books” tab to view our offerings. If you are a teacher or professor, please see that tab for information about getting our books to your students or campus bookstore.
Design in particular and creative problem-solving in general do not consist simply of picking the best solution from alternatives generated by others, including by Al (Artificial Intelligence). We lose critical value, not to mention joy, wonder, and fulfillment, if we outsource our explorations, investigations, and creative efforts to digital processors.
Prof. Edward T. White guides us to harness NI (Natural Intelligence) for real-world problem-solving. His incomparable work, now renewed as The Edward T. White Library, explores multiple techniques and approaches to the predesign, design, and post-occupancy processes based on decades of teaching, practice, and research experience. We think you’ll be inspired by them for years to come.
ArchiBasics Press was created by Barry Yatt, an architect-educator like Prof. White, to keep this specific body of knowledge alive. If you have questions, please use the Contact form and Prof. Yatt will reply. Lulu.com, a high-quality print-on-demand vendor, produces all our books, keeping them affordable.
If you are an educator wanting to make course adoptions, or an intern architect or AIA chapter organizing an ARE study group, please see the For Educators tab.

ArchiBasics Press was founded by an architectural educator in partnership with Prof. Edward T. White for the sole purpose of keeping these incomparable books available to students, practitioners, and the public. It is the sole authorized source for these works.
The Edward T. White Library is a collection that explores the design process, offers multiple techniques and approaches to analyzing context, synthesizes appropriate responses, and presents findings and recommendations in compelling ways based on both decades of experience and on original research.
ArchiBasics Press is a very small-scale operation using a print-on-demand vendor. We keep prices very low but don’t sell through major retailers or accept returns. But we think you’ll want to keep these books, to add your own notes in the margins, and to be inspired by them for many years.
Please click on the “Books” tab to view our offerings. If you are an educator wanting to place course adoptions, please see the “For Educators” tab for information about how to get our books to your students or in your campus bookstore.
